At St James, our mission statement forms the absolute heartbeat of our school.
“We treat each other as Jesus teaches us.”
At St James our Catholic Identity is at the centre of all we do.
We promote the well being and achievement of ALL children. Every member of our Catholic Community is a gift from God and we endeavour to encourage and support them in developing their own particular gifts and talents.
As a Catholic School, Gospel Values of caring for each other, treating each other as Jesus teaches us, are found in all areas of school life. We also make prayer, worship and liturgy both a meaningful and relevant experience for all.

Let us pray – “Lord, we thank You for guiding the Church in this sacred moment. Bless our new Pope with wisdom and strength, so he may lead Your people with faith and compassion. May his service bring unity and hope to believers everywhere. Amen.
Coffee Afternoons at St James
We hold regular coffee afternoons in school. These are a great way to meet other parents, chat with friends, feel supported and feel involved in school life. Our wonderful kitchen staff prepare cakes and donations are used to support our school fund, which helps subsidise experiences for the children throughout the year. Our next coffee afternoon is Friday 23rd May and we hope to see everyone there.

Let perpetual light shine upon him
We join with the Catholic Church throughout the world, in mourning the death of Pope Francis. A true servant of God, who has led the Catholic Church for over 12 years. He led with compassion, peace, and unity, a guiding light for millions, advocating for the marginalised and inspiring hope across the globe. His humility and unwavering commitment to justice will leave a lasting legacy.
As we reflect on his teachings, let us honour his memory by continuing to spread love and kindness in our communities. He will be remembered as a Pope who was humble, merciful, caring and full of Grace. Rest in peace, Holy Father.
Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine. Et lux perpetua luceat is. Fidelium animae, per misericordiam Dei, requiescant in pace. Amen
Statements to Live By
This resource is rooted in nine guiding principles which support the distinctive nature of Catholic schools. The statements make the Catholic values of the school explicit, promote a positive and caring Christian ethos that is understood and communicated to everyone, promote emotional literacy and contribute towards community cohesion and the common good.
These statements help children, families and staff think about who we are, what we believe and what we hope to become. We hope that together we will nurture a sense of what it is to be fully human and alive as children and adults sharing in this Christian community.
All of the statements are linked to our Religious Education programme and the Catholic Life of the school but each one is relevant no matter what our religious beliefs are. You can view the statements here: Statements to Live By
Happy Tu BiShvat
Today we would like to wish all of our Jewish brothers and sisters a happy Tu BiShvat.
Tu BiShvat is a “birthday” for all of the trees born in the previous year. It is a “new year” for the trees. Many people celebrate it by gathering together for a Tu BiShvat seder with figs, dates, and other delicious Israeli fruits.
Alzheimer’s Christmas Party
Feast of Christ the King
On Sunday 24th November we celebrated the Feast of Christ the King at St James Church.
This is a very important feast day in our Catholic calendar and were delighted to see many of our children and families attend the mass.
Children have been learning the chorus of a new version of the Apostles Creed and were delighted to showcase their talent to the parishioners.
It was a joyful event where the children represented the school and their families beautifully with their fantastic responses and outstanding behaviour.
Travelling Crib
As it is Advent we invite our families to take part in the Travelling Crib project. Each day a child is selected to take a Travelling Crib home. As a family you are invited to place the crib scene in your home, switch on the candle and take a short time to pray together.
The travelling crib has everything you will need, including a short prayer, hymn and information on how to use the set for the evening. We kindly ask that the set is returned to school the following day so that it can be passed on to another child.
We would be delighted to receive photos, drawings, prayers or writing about the crib. These could be brought into school or emailed to the office.
We are very much looking forward to you sharing your Travelling Crib stories throughout Advent.
