Mental Health & Wellbeing

Here at St James we understand that good Mental Health is as important to a child’s safety and wellbeing as their physical health. It can impact on all aspects of their life, including their educational attainment, relationships and physical wellbeing.

Meet the Team

At St James we have our own Mental Health Ambassadors. The Ambassadors work hard to remove the stigma of talking about challenging feelings and encourage everyone to open up in a supportive and non-judgmental environment.

We are delighted to be part of the South Tyneside Healthy Minds Team, who support our pupils with their mental health, anxieties and general worries. Lucy, our wonderful Healthy Minds Lead, works with individuals, pairs and small groups of children to support them.

HMT NEWS

  • The Healthy Minds Team presented an assembly to our children in school. They talked about who they were and what they do. They chatted to the children about how they can help themselves to achieve good mental health and introduced some exercises they can try, like the 5-finger breathing exercise.
  • Emily our school consultant from Healthy Minds Team will be attending our Parents Evening on Monday 14th October between 4 – 6pm.
  • Emily will present a workshop for parents in school based around anxiety and how to support your child with fears and worries. This session will take place in school on Wednesday 6th November from 9 – 10:30am. All of our parents and carers are welcome to come along and meet Emily in school.

Children’s Mental Health Week
3rd – 9th February is children’s mental health week. This week was designed to encourage more people to start talking, spread the word and support children’s mental health.
We had a fantastic assembly today which was delivered by Emily our Healthy Minds consultant. Emily helped us to recognise different emotions and gave us support on how we can manage them.
We will be doing activities in class this week based around children’s mental health. For more information about children’s mental health week 2025 follow the newsround link https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround
