Autumn in Year 3
In year 3 we have been busy settling in to our new routines and making the classroom feel like our own. The children have had such a positive attitude towards learning and have really brightened our days.
In RE we have been thinking about the promises made during a Baptism and why promises are important. During Advent we have been discussing visitors and linking our ideas to bible stories. In Science the children have been digging deep in their investigations on rocks and soils. We have learnt about the layers of soil and experimented with permeable and impermeable rock and soil types. Our history unit this term has been Stone Age to Bronze Age. We have learnt all about what daily life was like for Stone Age people. The children were very excited to explore a box of artefacts from the history museum which helped them to imagine what life was like during these times. In English, our class text was Stone Age Boy. The children have written diary entries as a Stone Age person, using ideas from the book and their history knowledge. We have explored the features of diary entries, fronted adverbials and tried to use lots of emotive language in our writing. In Art, we have been looking closely at the work of artists Michael Craig Martin and Julian Opie as inspiration for our own work. We have considered how they use simple line techniques to outline their work. We felt like real artists when we were able to use the St Joseph’s art department to paint out final piece. The children were really inspired by all the amazing art work displayed on the walls.
