Alzheimer’s Christmas Party

18th December 2024 By lisagillis

Our children were invited to St Aloysius Church to sing at the Alzheimer’s Christmas Party. It was a wonderful opportunity to bring Christmas Spirit to our friends at the parish.
The children performed beautifully, their behaviour was as always exceptional and their understanding toward the audience was heart warming!
“To bring joy to a person is to learn the song in their heart, and sing it to them when they have forgotten”

Healthy Smiles at St James

13th November 2024 By lisagillis

We are proud to have teamed up with Colgate this year to promote oral health in children. Your child will receive a toothbrush and toothpaste, alongside an informative leaflet around toothbrushing.

At St James we are a Healthy School and are championing a zero-cavity future for our children to work to end the world’s most prevalent chronic disease: tooth decay.

Left untreated, it can cause pain and discomfort, undermine self-esteem and quality of life, impact school attendance and more. We want to work together to create a school community of bright smiles and even brighter futures.

We hope you will support us and encourage good oral health at home.

We are moving to one system

13th November 2024 By lisagillis

We will soon be using Arbor as our text messaging service. We are moving towards one system. It’s really important that you sign up so that we can keep you updated. You can message us within the arbor app and can also request changes to your child’s profile information like contacts, addresses and telephone numbers by simply clicking on the information and correcting it – the office will then be alerted to your request. You can now see any reward points your child receives and their attendance.

Please find out how to download the app and sign up here Parent Portal and Parent App leaflet

दिवाली की शुभकामनाएँ

24th October 2024 By lisagillis

At St James as a Faith school it is important to us that we explore different World Faiths. We enjoyed an assembly this morning led by Mrs Scott centered around Diwali. Diwali is the Hindu Festival of Light. For many people this five day festival commemorates the victory of good over evil and Lord Ram and honours Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. It is celebrated at the end of October. Find out more about Diwali and Hinduism here https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/Diwali
We would like to wish our Hindu brothers and Sisters around the World a very दिवाली की शुभकामनाएँ

YOU SPOKE WE LISTENED

23rd October 2024 By lisagillis

You spoke we listened…
You said “We would like to know about playtimes in school, what does it look like, could the children have a bigger selection of outdoor equipment?”
We say “We received a delivery of new outdoor toys last week which include ankle skips, bat/balls, penny floater footballs, hoola hoops, dribbling cones, skipping ropes, sponge rugby balls, bean bags and of course our boom box playing age appropriate music that the children enjoy. Our Sports Ambassadors are responsible for setting out the toys in the appropriate zones and setting up the boom box. Cones separate our infant and junior zones and our playground buddies move between zones making sure that all of the children can play in a kind and caring environment. On PE days Tom (our sports coach) joins the children on the yard encouraging games. Children are supervised by school staff at all times (who also enjoy a dance) and always have a wonderful time!

Harvest Collection for the Key Project

23rd October 2024 By lisagillis

Mini Vinnies organised the collection of non-perishable foods on behalf of St James for the Key Project. The Key Project collected all of the donations from St James this morning and were truly overwhelmed by the generosity of our families. We want to say a special thank you to our Mini Vinnie Albie, who collected over £100 from his family. Albie then went to the shops to buy items on the list. Thank you to everyone who donated and special thanks to Albie’s family. Further information about the project can be found at https://keycommunity.org.uk/

Top Table at St James

21st October 2024 By lisagillis

The pupil voice ambassadors at St James said that they would love to have the top table back, we of course have listened and have now reintroduced our top table. Two children from each class are selected to sit and have lunch at the top table every Friday. The tables are dressed for the children by our kitchen staff complete with cutlery and tablecloth. A member of the teaching staff sits with the children and chats whilst serving them water or juice. Children are chosen to sit at the top table if they have stood out in some way. This could be for a variety of reasons for example, working hard at a subject they find tricky, using manners or being a good friend. The teachers serve the children as part of our catholic ethos “to serve”.

World Mental Health Day

10th October 2024 By lisagillis

Here at St James we understand that good Mental Health is as important to a child’s safety and wellbeing as their physical health. It can impact on all aspects of their life, including their educational attainment, relationships and physical wellbeing. At St James we have our own Mental Health Ambassadors. The Ambassadors work hard to remove the stigma of talking about challenging feelings and encourage everyone to open up in a supportive and non-judgmental environment.
We are delighted to be part of the South Tyneside Healthy Minds Team, who support our pupils with their mental health, anxieties and general worries. The team work with individuals, pairs and small groups of children to support them.
  • The Healthy Minds Team presented an assembly to our children in school. They talked about who they were and what they do. They chatted to the children about how they can help themselves to achieve good mental health and introduced some exercises they can try, like the 5-finger breathing exercise.

  • Emily our school consultant from Healthy Minds Team will be attending our Parents Evening on Monday 14th October between 4 – 6pm.
  • Emily will present a workshop for parents in school based around anxiety and how to support your child with fears and worries. This session will take place in school on Wednesday 6th November from 9 – 10:30am. All of our parents and carers are welcome to come along and meet Emily in school.
Lets work together to achieve great mental health for all at St James!
